Erdemir to conduct hydrogen injection trial at Its 1st Blast Furnace
Continuing its journey towards green steel transformation, Erdemir is preparing to accomplish a first for the Turkish steel sector. In alignment with its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, Erdemir will conduct a hydrogen injection trial at its 1st Blast Furnace.
As carbon emission reduction targets and roadmaps are being established globally within the steel industry, Erdemir has ramped up its efforts to meet its 2050 net-zero emissions target. As one of Türkiye's leading steel producers, Erdemir will conduct the hydrogen injection trial at its 1st Blast Furnace this October.
The trial, to be carried out in cooperation with Erdemir, Erdemir Engineering, and Linde, marks a pivotal moment in Erdemir's green transformation journey. The trial will involve injecting hydrogen gas into the 1st Blast Furnace from five tuyeres over a two-day period. This groundbreaking initiative will make Erdemir one of only three steel producers in Europe to implement such a process, bringing cutting-edge technological infrastructure to Türkiye. Erdemir Engineering will also showcase its expertise in the steel sector through the custom-designed injection system.
